Bourne issues resolution in opposition of vehicle mileage tax

LITCHFIELD (Heartland Newsfeed) -- State Representative Avery Bourne (R-Raymond) has signed on as chief co-sponsor of a resolution that voices opposition to a new tax on Illinois motorists being charged per mile traveled. Bourne is supporting House Resolution 766, which was filed this week in response to new proposed legislation that attempts to penalize drivers with work commutes with new taxes. Lincoln birthday celebration to take place in Vandalia

VANDALIA (Heartland Newsfeed) -- Vandalia Statehouse State Historic Site will celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday with a special event on Saturday, Feb. 10. Pre-trial hearing set for Alexander Beccue October 31

VANDALIA (Heartland Newsfeed) -- Alexander Beccue waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday, September 6 in Fayette County Court and requested the matter be set at pre-trial status. Judge Don Sheafor granted the motions. Beccue and his attorney, Edward Deters, waived arraignment on all issues except punishment. Beccue is being held in the Illinois Department of Corrections on four felony counts: Count 1: Beccue's first count is for the first-degree murder of 29-year-old Joshua K. Smith of Nokomis.
