U.N. agency head resigns amid investments probe

NEW YORK (UPI) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday accepted the resignation of the head of a U.N. agency under investigation for potentially losing millions of dollars in bad investments. Grete Faremo, the executive director of the U.N. Office for Project Services, submitted her resignation Sunday after The New York Times published an article detailing how the little-known agency may lose up to $25 million meant for aid to developing countries. Illinois peace advocates raise U.S. nuclear weapons policy concerns

CHICAGO -- With a United Nations treaty banning nuclear weapons now in effect, Illinois advocates for peace are renewing conversations about U.S. disarmament policy. Experts said while pandemics typically originate in diverse […]

The 89-year-old investor, who nine years ago launched The Pickens Plan, designed to drive the U.S. energy sector away from its dependence on foreign oil, said in a statement he was shutting down his oil- and gas-commodity focused BP Capital. Launched after he left Mesa Petroleum in the 1990s, Pickens said he's seen oil move […]

North Korea’s only 3G network provider withdraws services

SEOUL, South Korea (UPI) -- North Korea's only 3G network provider will pull out of the hermit kingdom, cutting off some 3.5 million citizens subscribed to its local Koryolink services. Egypt's telecom giant Orascom froze operations in the North early last month, due to regime's continuous nuclear and missile provocations, Newsis reported, citing Japanese intelligence sources. Koryolink is one of the largest mobile operators in the North, established in 2008 as a joint venture between Orascom and the North's telecommunications ministry. […]
