Tropical Storm Katia becomes hurricane in Gulf of Mexico

TAMPICO, Mexico (UPI) -- Katia became the third hurricane active in the Atlantic on Wednesday, joining Irma and Jose, the National Hurricane Center said. Katia formed in the early morning in the southern Gulf of Mexico and by evening had strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane. The NHC said the storm is expected to stay off the coast of Mexico through Friday morning, making landfall sometime overnight. Pestano, United Press International Writer WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of State has warned people traveling to Mexico about possibly tainted or substandard alcohol, and to drink responsibly after the death of a Wisconsin woman. 28 dead in Acapulco, Mexico, prison riot

Ed Adamczyk United Press International ACAPULCO, Mexico (UPI) -- A fight between rival gangs in an Acapulco, Mexico, prison killed at least 28 people, a federal military spokesman said.
