The Capital One data breach: the potential fallout of one of America’s largest banks

Capital One suffered a massive data breach, which affected approximately 100 million Americans; unsurprisingly, they are facing major scrutiny. Lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee sent correspondence to Capital One and Amazon requesting information on the incident. As is the mainstay of modern data breaches, it would appear that getting educated in the ways of data security is low on the priority list. The hacker, a former Amazon Web Services (AWS) employee, has been arrested, and while the suspect, Paige […]

COMMENTARY: OK, we’ll bite. Why doesn’t Bill Gates believe we should take vacations and weekends off?

(Heartland Newsfeed) -- I have been reading a MarketWatch article "Bill Gates doesn’t believe that everyone should take vacations and weekends off" and have read it several times over for the past hour. I have to admit I am a bit confused about the deceptive headline alone. Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates stated during a conference last weekend that "he didn't really believe in vacations" while building his tech giant from the foundation up. He was essentially stating before […]

Amazon hops on board the blockchain wagon

Blockchain technology is not a new thing, but when corporations announce their usage of the technology, the Internet goes wild. Retail giant Amazon made an announcement last month during their ReInvent conference that they were going to join the blockchain trend by starting two blockchain-oriented ledgers. The announcement was made by Amazon Web Services (AWS) CEO Andrew Jazzy regarding their newest endeavors under the blockchain -- Quantum Ledger Database (QLD) and Amazon Managed Blockchain (AMB). Jazzy admitted that their clients […]

Trump orders examination of USPS operations, finances

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- President Donald Trump has formed a new task force to examine the operations model of the U.S. Postal Service, in view of mounting financial losses. Trump signed an executive order Thursday to form the panel, days after he blasted online retailer Amazon for making the USPS its "delivery boy." The order said a decline in first-class mail volume, coupled with legal mandates that force the USPS to incur substantial and inflexible costs, resulted in a deficit where revenues can no […]
