Skillicorn, GOP colleagues call for special legislative session to tackle ethics reform

SPRINGFIELD (Heartland Newsfeed) -- Several members of the Republican caucus are calling for a special session in order to bring ethics reform to the General Assembly, but it doesn't seem likely it will happen this month. State Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-Crystal Lake) recently called for a special session on Twitter, citing that "ending the culture of corruption" is key and "is not rocket science." Skillicorn and four other colleagues -- Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville), Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), Chris Miller (R-Oakland) […]

Nobody, formerly known as Rich Paul, de-platformed from Twitter over hyperbolic Clinton remark

KEENE, N.H. (Heartland Newsfeed) -- A Republican candidate for governor in New Hampshire was permanently de-platformed from Twitter Sunday following an obvious hyperbolic tweet made on the platform. Candidate Nobody (formerly known as Rich Paul) responded to remarks that Karen Lytle (@karenlytle711) made in response to a tweet made by Michigan Congressman Justin Amash. It’s like Pavlov’s dogs. The moment Hillary speaks, a lot of men lose their minds. It actually crosses political ideology. #misogyny — Karma's Quid Pro Quo […]

Healthcare takes center stage during second round of Democratic debates

DETROIT (UPI) -- Healthcare dominated the conversation during the first night of the second round of 2020 Democratic presidential debates. The field of 10 candidates was split on the idea of implementing a strategy such as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' Medicare for All plan that would enroll every American in a government-run national health insurance system funded by taxpayers and other options that would allow Americans to retain their private insurance plans. Former Maryland Rep. John Delaney opened the debate […]

Illinois lawmaker proposes voter tax credit

SPRINGFIELD (Illinois News Network) -- An Illinois lawmaker is proposing a $25 tax credit for voters. Freshman state Senator Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago) has introduced legislation that would give a $25 state tax credit for anyone who votes in a general election. He says it’s been tried elsewhere and found to increase turnout. “We need more people to participate in our democracy,” Villivalam said. “That’s what this legislation aims to do.” He discounted the notion that a tax credit for voting was akin to a […]
