NOKOMIS — Effective midnight Monday, Sept. 28, regular listeners will notice some changes to our radio broadcast schedule. Some changes are very small. However, other changes will be quite significant.
During the week, we normally carry the daily newscast from Public News Service until 6 PM. While our partnership with the news service will continue, the daily newscasts will run from midnight until 11 AM Central time. For the remaining half of the day, we will be carrying the hourly newscast from FOX News Radio from 12 Noon to 11 PM. FOX News Radio’s hourly newscasts will air all weekend.
This change was prompted due to a news service, Liberty Beat, a news division of Some Next Level S***, suspending production of the five-minute newscast. The newscast would usually air during the week. Fortunately, the lack of a timestamp did allow for Friday’s newscast to air throughout the weekend.
Two fixtures on our sister podcast network will no longer be broadcast on the network. Jeff Berwick’s Anarchast has gone through a change in hosting. Additionally, the change in production is resulting in less frequent broadcasts. The show is still available on the Heartland Newsfeed Podcast Network. The show was a schedule addition in November 2019.
Joining Anarchast is a music interview podcast, Bedroom Beethovens. The show, hosted by Cello Milteer, interviews music producers and talk about what is considered a “10,000-hour journey.” The podcast, which became a radio network addition in March, will still remain a fixture on the podcast network. We are in the process of catching up on all previous episodes and push them to the website in the near future.
Some programs are swapping time slots in this newest change.
KCRW’s Left, Right and Center, a show that’s been a Sunday institution on the radio network since mid-2019, is making the move to Saturday mornings. The show will be airing at 5 AM Central time in place of Statewide from NPR Illinois.
Replacing the 6 AM vacancy from the Anarchast removal is The Rubin Report. Normally a weekend fixture at 11 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, it will now only air once. It now airs at 6 AM. Statewide from NPR Illinois will be taking over this 11 PM time slot on both nights.
A Saturday afternoon sports podcast is making the move to Sunday mornings. That’s So MLS, a podcast pertaining to Major League Soccer, will now be airing at 5 AM.
A Sunday afternoon fixture is also moving back to Saturdays after six months. The Jim Rome Podcast will be returning to Saturdays, but this time airing at 5 PM.
Not much is changing with USA Classic Radio Theater, except for a slight change on Saturdays. The show will now be airing an hour earlier to match the Sunday timeslots of 2-5 PM.
Two new programs and a returning news program will have their placements on the weekend schedule beginning next weekend, October 3-4.
NPR Illinois’ State Week In Review, a weekly 30-minute news program about Illinois state political matters, is returning after a six-month hiatus from the schedule. It will air Saturday afternoons at 1 PM Central.
To fill out the second half of that hour, a fixture on our podcast network will be making its debut. The BAD Crypto Podcast, hosted by tech guru Joel Comm and co-host Travis Wright, will be airing (or at least as much of an episode as possible) following State Week.
Listeners will notice they will have a total of five hours of classic radio programming on Sunday. Heartland Newsfeed Radio Network is now proud to launch our first original program in two years. The newest program is titled Heartland Classic Radio Theatre and will feature classic radio shows from the golden radio age. The first few episodes of the show will have limitations to the classic radio programs itself, with voice-tracking becoming additions to the program in November. We will be seeking sponsors and ad buyers for this program.
Classic radio has its fair share of issues and the biggest one would be avoiding airing something that Classic Radio Theater is airing on those exact weekends. If there’s a classic radio program you’d like to hear and it’s not a publicly available show, feel free to contact us. We will air it on the program.
You can find the full weekday schedule on our website here and here. Additionally, our full weekend broadcast schedule is also available.
