It’s baseball season, so there’s nothing like a sports story. This one’s about a kid named Danny.
Danny began playing baseball at age eight, and watched every game he could find on TV.
He always wanted to hit home runs, but he wasn’t particularly strong. When he was 11, he asked his coach how to hit better.
“Danny,” the kindly coach said, “You’re a good place hitter. You can hit the ball where you want it to go. Don’t worry about hitting it a long way. Think more about hitting it in the right direction.
“The best players I’ve seen — male or female — were ones who discovered what they did best when they were young. Then, they spent extra time developing that special skill.”
Danny remembered his coach’s advice, and asked his schoolteachers what else he did well. They noticed his keen eye for detail, which he applied as he became a successful graphic artist.
What do you do well? Do your teachers and family agree? If so, they may be helping you plan a great career.
