NOKOMIS — Patrons of the Nokomis Township Public Library have noticed that they are now operating under summer hours.

The transition, which went into effect Monday, will now have the library open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

According to library director Lisa Casterline, it will only be a reduction of three hours per week than they previously were.

“We understand that our patrons are very busy in the summer, and children will more than likely be participating in our summer reading program or just visiting us during the mornings and afternoons,” Casterline said. “We have decided to adjust our hours a little bit to accommodate for these things.”

The new hours are set in hopes that families and children will come in during the morning and afternoon hours to enjoy the library and its services before going to scheduled sporting events or spending time with their families in the evening.

Those seeking to renew or place a hold on items can continue to do so online. Patrons can also check out audiobooks and e-books with their library card and PIN number should the library’s summer operating hours be unable to match up with their schedules. Additional questions about these services can be answered by calling the library at (217) 563-2734.

Information about upcoming events, such as the June 26 garden walk, is available at the library, located at 100 N. Spruce St., online through the library’s website or their social media on Facebook.
