LINCOLN (Heartland Newsfeed) — The Illinois State Police and ISP District 09 are investigating a Thanksgiving Eve accident that has resulted in one fatality.

According to a preliminary traffic crash investigation, the first vehicle, operated by Adriana Rodrigues, 26, of Wenona was travelling southbound on Interstate 55 approaching mile marker 128. Rodrigues’ blue 2004 model year Dodge veered off the roadway to the left somewhere around 9:01 pm and traveled through the median. The vehicle would then exit the median and struck a northbound gray 2001 model year Ford driven by a 22-year-old female. Both parties were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was presumed dead on arrival and her name has not been disclosed at this time while police notifies the family. Rodrigues was transported by Logan County Ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, pending citations for improper lane usage and operation of a motor vehicle without insurance.
