DECATUR — The October opening date for the new Tillamook facility is set to be on schedule, according to an email provided by a company spokesperson.
“We are still on track for a fall opening,” the email read.
Tillamook County Creamery Association, based in Oregon, announced in early 2023 that they would be purchasing the former Prairie Farms facility on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive for a new ice cream factory. The company purchased the facility for $2.55 million.
The project will be an approximately $50 million investment and create 45 new jobs. The Decatur City Council approved a redevelopment agreement with Tillamook to demolish a nearby abandoned warehouse for future expansion by the company.
The Decatur factory will be their first outside of Oregon. Tillamook is known for dairy products such as ice cream, milk, and cheese. The company was founded in 1909 in Tillamook County, Oregon. The company first started producing ice cream in 1947.
