NOKOMIS — The Nokomis Public Library hosted the University of Illinois Extension on Tuesday as part of the library’s Summer Reading Program.
According to a news release from library director Lisa Casterline, the program had 15 children and five adults in attendance for the Extension’s presentation on small mammals in Illinois. Representatives from the Extension also presented fun facts about them as well. Attendees were also able to touch the pelts and see the skulls of a variety of small mammals.
Signup for the Summer Reading Program started on June 3, so there are plenty of opportunities for other programs throughout the summer until its conclusion on August 5.
“There is plenty of time for kids ages two through high school senior to sign up, read, and attend our events,” said Casterline.
Parents of participants will need to contact the library to register them using the names of the children, the most recent grade completed, and a contact phone number.
Casterline reminds potential participants that they do not have to live in Nokomis to attend or participate in the program. In addition, non-residents of Nokomis Township attending Nokomis CUSD #22 schools can receive a free library card good until August 31, before being subject to a non-resident fee.
Residents within Nokomis Township get a free library card that is good for three years.
A “Build It Up” open play session will occur again on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the library. It will remain at 2 p.m. for the summer session.
Fred and His Feathered Friends will be the next program as part of the Summer Reading Program next Tuesday, June 18 at 10 a.m.
