FARMERSVILLE — The Farmersville-Waggoner Public Library will be hosting a variety of programs this summer for youth of all ages.
Registration for the summer reading program “Read, Renew, Repeat!” will begin on Monday, June 3. All children residing within the Farmersville-Waggoner Public Library district in Kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to participate.
Fifteen books and short reports are required to complete the program, and small incentive rewards may be selected throughout the program, which will conclude on Friday, August 2. A grand finale for the program will involve a picnic at Farmersville City Park for readers and their families. Monetary prizes will be drawn at that time. Participants who complete their program will receive their school supplies for the 2024-25 academic year as designated by the lists set by their upcoming teachers and a T-shirt.
Library board trustee Carrie Matthews will be hosting a series of programs every Thursday at the library beginning June 6, concluding on July 18. (This will not include Thursday, July 4 due to the Independence Day holiday.)
Children between three and eight years of age are encouraged to meet at the library each Thursday beginning at 9 a.m., as Matthews will read several moving and grooving stories encouraging children to get up and wiggle, dance, and learn through reading in each hour-long program. Children will also play games, work on crafts to take home, eat delicious snacks, and most importantly, have fun. There is no residency requirement to live within the library district to attend and participate in this program.
The Summer Book Club is making its return to Thursdays beginning June 6, which starts after the conclusion of the younger age group program at 10 a.m. This year’s Summer Book Club selection is Roald Dahl’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which tells a delightful tale about a clever fox who cannot resist stealing food from three mean farmers – Boggin, Bunce, and Bean. During the hour-long program, many STEM activities will be created and shared, and story-themed snacked will be provided. There is no residency requirement to live within the library district to attend and participate in this program.
Representatives from the Montgomery County Health Department will present programs for children ages six through 11 on Tuesday mornings beginning June 11. The hour-long program will start at 10 a.m. inside the library. The program will run through July 30. It is not necessary to be a library district resident to attend this program.
For additional information on these programs, call Farmersville-Waggoner Library at (217) 227-3711.
