Ben Wilcoxen chalked up the only goal and Chatham Glenwood nicked Springfield High 1-0 in a Central State Eight Conference boys soccer match at Lee Field on Monday.
Brody Green preserved the shutout at the net. Glenwood (2-1 overall, 2-0 CS8) earlier started the season with a 6-3 CS8 win over Normal University.
PLEASANT PLAINS — Manning Teefey chalked up two goals and Pleasant Plains’ soccer team topped Riverton/Buffalo Tri-City 3-1 to begin the Four Corners Classic tournament.
Jackson Dent delivered the opening goal, followed by Teefey for a 2-0 halftime lead. Teefey helped secure the win with the insurance goal after the break.
Julian Rice assisted to Isaac Crumrine for Riverton. Keaton Martincic had seven saves.
Williamsville nicked Beardstown 1-0 in the tournament’s other match.
NOKOMIS — Mackenzie Mehochko dialed up seven kills, nine digs and three aces in Nokomis’ 25-18, 25-13 nonconference win over St. Elmo/Brownstown.
Lizzy Hill contributed four aces and seven digs while Kinley Stolte and Becca Hill combined for 15 assists. Addison Glenn had three blocks and two kills.
IN OTHER NEWS: KINZE MCTAGGART recorded three blocks in Pawnee’s 25-21, 25-15 nonconference loss to Central A& M. HAILEY MERRIT had three kills and one block. … MORGAN COWDREY posted 15 assists, four kills, three aces and four digs in Raymond Lincolnwood’s 25-13, 25-15 MSM Conference win over Edinburg. KIERSTYN DENNEY had five kills, five assists and five digs while TORI ELVIDGE chipped in five kills.
PALMYRA — Tanner Frye carded one-under-par 34 for first place overall and the boys golf team title for South County at Terry Park Golf Course.
Teammate Logan Smith followed with a 36.
Raymond Lincolnwood earned second among four teams, led by Brady Schmedeke’s 37 and Bryce Cowdrey’s 40.
On the girls side, Alaina Ervin cruised to first place at 3-under 32 to lead Pleasant Plains to the team title. Brandi Leesman was second on the team with a 44.
Jenna Matli led Lincolnwood with a 46.
MOUNT ZION — Sacred Heart-Griffin won all but one singles match to come away with a 6-3 victory over Mount Zion.
MK Christie edged Mount Zion’s Faith Roundcount in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Laney Aleman topped No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-1 over Mount Zion’s Victoria Madler while Katherine Karns also won No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 over Sophia Byers.
SHG’s Caroline Sheehan and Lily White won No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-1 over Paityn Koester and Lucy Schnippel.
