HILLSBORO — With the upcoming consolidated election in April, Montgomery County Clerk Sandy Leitheiser is reminding voters about their voter registration.

Voters should ensure that their voter registration information is up-to-date in order to avoid issues or delays in voting on April 4. Leitheiser encourages those seeking to update their registration to do it as soon as possible.

The upcoming consolidated election will elect local municipal officials, as well as park and library districts, school boards, and other local governing bodies.

“Our goal is that no Montgomery County voter will have a problem at the polls April 4,” Leitheiser said. “If any voter needs to change their name, address, needs a new voter ID card, or to be sure about their polling place and precinct, we hope they contact us now.”

Voters can visit the County Clerk’s website to verify if their registration is up-to-date. The county utilizes information through the Illinois State Board of Elections website.

New voter information, final dates for in-person and online voter registration

Youth who will become 18 years of age on or before April 4 are eligible to register. The final day for registration or changes to an existing voter registration through the Clerk’s office is Tuesday, Mar. 7. The final day for online registrations is Sunday, Mar. 19.

Submit any address changes to the County Clerk

Voters are reminded that they should completely re-register if their name has changed or if they have moved to Montgomery County. They shouldn’t assume that once they move, those changes are reported to the County Clerk. Voters moving within the county should complete the voter transfer information on the back of their current voter ID card and mail it to the Clerk’s office at PO Box 595, Hillsboro, IL 62049 before the March 7 deadline.

Voter registration qualifications include U.S. citizenship, minimum age of 18 on or by election day, and residency in the precinct for 30 days by April 4.

For more election information, residents should contact the County Clerk’s office, located on the first floor of the historic courthouse between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also call the Clerk’s office at (217) 532-9530 or email her at [email protected].
