STAUNTON — Wayne Ruehrup delivered his last round of mail for the Staunton Post Office last Friday, Apr. 1.

Ruehrup has been a rural mail carrier for all of his 38 years with the Staunton Post Office.

Ruehrup started his job in May 1985, developing a sincere appreciation for both his fellow workers and customers. He’s seen people come and go. During that time, he has become acquainted with generations of families on his mail route.

“There have also been a lot of changes over the years,” Ruehrup stated, referring to growth in and around Staunton.

During his tenure, new subdivisions have been built and the same is true for the addition of the assisted living facility.

Among his list of things to do in retirement is to tackle abandoned projects over the past 30 years. Currently. he runs the family farm in rural New Douglas and will continue to do so. He also plans to make time for some traveling with his wife Judy.

“Everyone enjoys working with Wayne,” stated Staunton Postmaster Angela Brown. “He’s been a good employee – dependable. We’ll miss him.”
