PANA — There will not be a primary election in the east-central Illinois city of Pana in 2021.

As a result, all races will be contested on Tuesday, Apr. 6, 2021.

The filing deadline was last month with the potential expectation of a primary election in late February.

Pana mayoral race

Current mayor Donald Kroski is not seeking re-election. Three candidates would turn in petitions to get on the ballot. They are current alderman Steven Scott and newcomers Nathan Pastor and Rod Helm.

City clerk and treasurer races uncontested, incumbents retain

Pana City Clerk Terry Klein would file for re-election, after changing his mind about retirement. Klein is uncontested and is re-elected by default.

The same is true for City Treasurer Pete Scherzer, who is also seeking re-election.

Three Pana wards with uncontested races

Three of Pana’s four wards will also have no contest in April.

Timothy Edwards would file for the seat in Ward 1.

Seats for a full four-year term and a two-year unexpired term for aldermen in Ward 2 are up. Seeking the full term is Glenn Schneider. Seeking the unexpired term is Katherine Stephens.

Jeric Horsthemke is seeking the aldermanic seat in Ward 3.

Ward 4 only race in contention

Two former aldermen will face off for one seat in Ward 4.

Roy Welburn and Kent Sims, who previously held office as alderman in the ward, are seeking to return to their former office.
