NORMAL, Ill. — The athletic department of Illinois State University is hosting a fundraising event for one of their programs.

The Redbird For Life (RB4L) program is holding their inaugural Support Your Sport Challenge this week. The event will begin Monday, Nov. 30 and will run through Friday, Dec. 4.

The fundraising challenge is an effort to increase participation by former student-athletes to support their sports teams at their alma mater. Gifts will go directly to the team of their choice and is tax-deductible.

There is an incentive: the team with the most athletic alumni making a gift during the week-long campaign receives a prize of $1,000. There is a $500 cash prize for second place.

Donation specifics for RB4L Support Your Sport Challenge

Former Redbird athletes are encouraged to make their contributions via a special website. They will then be able to see a list of sports teams at Illinois State to contribute to.

Additionally, donations via postal mail or by calling (309) 438-5455 will be accepted. Mailed-in donations can go to Illinois State Athletics, RB4L Support Your Sport Challenge, Campus Box 2660, Normal, IL 61790-2660. Please include the sport of support in the check’s memo section.

Due to restrictions in relation to COVID-19, no in-person gifts can be brought in.

How Illinois State Athletics will use gifts and donations

There are a variety of reasons for the use of gifts to Redbird Athletics. Some of them include expenses and travel for various sports.

For example, gifts to Redbird Softball assist with expenses for travel, equipment, summer school, and foreign travel. However, in gymnastics and swimming/diving, some of these gifts will be used for newer equipment. More detail on the use of monetary gifts is available in their news release.

RB4L coordinator Marianne Riddell can be reached via email or by calling (309) 438-5455.
