SPRINGFIELD — Libertarian vice presidential nominee Jeremy “Spike” Cohen will be in Illinois beginning Sunday in preparation for a campaign blitz in the state.

Cohen will be in Springfield Monday as he and running mate Jo Jorgensen file their paperwork for the November 3 election. Additionally, there will be Congressional and state legislative candidates filing their candidate packets that day as well. The expected time of filing should be around 11 a.m. A press conference on the Illinois State Capitol grounds will follow at 1 p.m. as a result.

Cohen is on the speaker roster for the press conference, which includes U.S. Senate nominee Danny Malouf and Congressional candidate William Redpath.

Libertarian Filing Day festivities in Peoria

Cohen will then appear during a meet-and-greet event in Peoria at Mack’s, currently scheduled for 5 p.m. This event is hosted by the Libertarian Party of Greater Peoria to celebrate the petition turn-ins earlier in the day.

LPGP chair and state vice-chair Donny Henry states that the candidates have worked hard to gather their signatures. There is a one-week window to determine who will make the ballot in November as a result, which will end at 5 p.m. on July 27.

“Monday morning, we will turn in petitions in Springfield from Libertarian candidates across the state. Peoria alone has nine candidates running for local office. We are so proud of all of our candidates all the way from our county board, to our presidential and vice-presidential candidate Spike Cohen, who will be joining us on Monday evening at Mack’s,” stated Henry.

The tour finishes in East Dundee Wednesday

Finally, Cohen finishes his Illinois campaign tour Wednesday at the River Street Tavern in East Dundee. The meet-and-greet event will run from 6-9 p.m. with Cohen speaking at 7. Fox Valley Libertarian Party is the host of this event.

FVLP chair Julie Fox states this will be a great opportunity for voters. Additionally, it’s important for voters to see that they have more than two options in November.

“Right now, the country is extremely divided between the Republicans and Democrats. There are people looking for another option,” Fox states. “This is an excellent opportunity for the public to be introduced to the Libertarian Party. Spike is an amazing speaker.”

Who is “Spike” Cohen?

Cohen is a co-owner of Muddied Waters Media, a news/commentary and entertainment media source. He is the host of The Muddied Waters of Freedom podcast.

Cohen originally ran alongside Vermin Supreme throughout most of the campaign. As a result, he would become the VP selection in May alongside Jorgensen via an online nominating convention.

“I believe Dr. Jo Jorgensen is the right person to counter Trump and Biden,” Cohen relays. “I hope to work with her to end wars, free the innocent, and end the infringements that impede voluntary problem-solving.”

Cohen spoke before the convention body during the Phase Two sitting of the Libertarian National Convention this past weekend in Orlando.
