STAUNTON (Heartland Newsfeed) — Seventeen teams of four teed off at Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton September 27 to raise money for their annual scholarship distributions to high school students in southwestern central Illinois.
While some came to compete, others came for the fun, camaraderie and to remember the late Bob Price by helping such a great cause. Members of Bob’s family were present, from as close as Hillsboro to as far as North Carolina.
Cash prizes went out to the teams finishing first, second, third and thirteenth. The winning team, with a score of 56, was the team of Bill Schuette, Terry Tessary, Jacob Kellebrew and David Kellebrew, all of Mt. Olive. Second place, with a score of 59, went to the team of Mitch Scheller, Dave Scheller and Andy Mayer of Mt. Olive and Chuck Satterlee of Walshville. Third place, with a score of 60, went to the team of Dave Wargo, Travis Irwin, Eric Johnson and Deanna Stendebach, all of Jerseyville. Thirteenth place, with a score of 83, went to the team of Anthony Leone, Geraldine Leone, Susie Briggs and Spike Briggs, all from Benld.
Additional prizes were given for longest drive, closest to the pin and chipping. Tessary and Anne Clough of Carrollton won the longest drive contest, Dave Stewart of Nokomis and Audra Harrison of North Carolina won the closest to the pin contest and George Russell won the chipping contest.
Bill Marley of Nokomis was the winner of the raffle, with the choice of the cash or a gun. Marley chose the gun as the prize.
Thirty scholarships have been awarded in the past six years with scholarships going to graduating students in the Hillsboro, North Greene, Piasa Northwestern, Nokomis, North Mac and Staunton for the 2018-19 academic year.
High school seniors residing in Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin and Montgomery counties are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
Anyone interested in learning more about the scholarship or the 2020 tournament can contact Ginger Barnes at (217) 825-9175.
The event raised $15,214 at the tournament but welcomes and appreciates additional donations to the fund at the First National Bank of Raymond.
