DEERFIELD (Heartland Newsfeed) — In a press release made available Tuesday afternoon, Jon Stewart, a retired professional wrestler and former Libertarian gubernatorial candidate, expressed his displeasure with the Village of Deerfield’s recent approval of a semi-automatic gun ban, which is set to go into effect on June 13 and has hinted at defying the law.

stewartDeerfield, which lies along the North Shore region of Chicago, has been known for being a quiet, subdued upscale suburb, but that might not last much longer if Stewart has a say on the matter.

Stewart, who performed in pro wrestling organizations penned as “The Illustrious” Jonnie Stewart, boasted during his year-long campaign for the gubernatorial nomination alongside nominee Grayson “Kash” Jackson and fellow former candidate Matthew C. Scaro that he has unregistered guns in his home, which includes the AR-15 semi-auto rifle the village is imposing a ban on.

“Throughout my campaign for the Libertarian nomination for Governor, I championed the Second Amendment. I’m not going to back down to a bunch of spineless politicians who clearly don’t believe in the Constitution,” Stewart states in his remarks while on vacation in California.

Stewart continues, “If the Village wants a standoff then a standoff is what they’ll get, but rest assured, no one is taking my AR-15.”

Upon his return to Chicago later this week, Stewart will be holding a press conference.

“We either have a Constitution and a set of Amendments or we don’t,” Stewart adds. “It’s really just that simple.”
