WASHINGTON (UPI) — Anthony Scaramucci resigned after 10 days as President Donald Trump‘s communications director to give new chief of staff John Kelly a “clean slate,” the White House said Monday.

The New York Times first reported the removal and two White House officials confirmed the news to Politico.

The office of the White House press secretary issued a statement wishing Scaramucci “all the best.”

“Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House communications director. Mr. Scaramucci felt it was best to give chief of staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team,” the statement read.

Scaramucci was removed from the position 10 days after he started, a whirlwind week and a half in which Sean Spicer resigned as press secretaryand Reince Priebus was fired as chief of staff.

Within that time, Scaramucci gave a profanity-laced interview to the New Yorker magazine, blasting Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon for leaking White House information.

The sources told the Times that Kelly requested Scaramucci’s removal and told members of the White House staff on Monday morning that he is in charge.
