NOKOMIS — The first month of the summer reading program at Nokomis Public Library is nearing an end, and the fun hasn’t stopped.
Fred and His Feathered Friends were at the library on June 18. Attendees learned about birds of the Amazon that Fred and Kitty Mooney took in and rehabilitated over time before releasing back into the wild.
A story time and craft session was held on June 28, where there was an elephant and pig theme and attendees learned how to make ice cream.
Several story time and live animal shows are planned in July, with more information available on the library’s Facebook page as well as its website. Those who have signed up for the reading program are encouraged to attend, and events are open to the public.
Please note that the library will be closed Thursday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday.
Among the live animal shows in July are Reptiles of Illinois on July 11, Scovill Zoo on July 17, and a petting zoo held by the Nokomis High School FFA chapter on July 22.
Other programs in July include a rainbow fish story time on July 9, a Build It Up open-play session on July 18, and Christmas in July with Santa on July 25.
